Engineering simulation services
Structural, fluid, thermal, electromagnetic and coupled studies, run by the engineers who design the product. Part of 03 Detail & Simulation, or bought on its own.
The physics we cover
- Structural analysis and FEAStress, stiffness, yielding, vibration, fatigue, thermal stress and drop or impact, in parts and assemblies.
- Fluid flow and CFDPressure drop, flow distribution, mixing, multiphase and free-surface flow, and heat carried by the flow.
- Thermal simulationConduction, convection and radiation, steady or transient, and whether parts stay inside their temperature limits.
- ElectromagneticsMagnetic and electric fields in motors, solenoids, actuators and transformers: force, torque, inductance and losses.
- MultiphysicsStudies where one effect drives another: losses into heat, heat into stress, flow loads onto a structure.
Structural analysis
The FEA studies we run most. Applications by product
- Stress analysisLinear static and contact analysis: where stress peaks, how far it deflects and how load shares between parts.
- Non-linear analysisLarge deflection, yielding, rubber and changing contact, where linear results stop holding.
- Vibration and modal analysisNatural frequencies, mode shapes and forced response, kept clear of running speeds.
- Fatigue analysisWhere cracks would start under repeated load, and how many cycles the design will see through.
- Thermal stress analysisTemperature fields and the stress they cause, from mismatched materials to thermal cycling.
- Drop test and impact simulationPeak loads and deformation in a drop or impact, and which parts are at risk.
Which study do I need?
Start from the question. Each one leads to the study that answers it.
- Will it bend, yield or break?Stress analysis
- Will it last its design life?Fatigue analysis
- Will it resonate or shake loose?Vibration and modal analysis
- Will it survive a drop?Drop test and impact simulation
- Does it deform, yield or seal?Non-linear analysis
- What pressure drop or flow will it give?CFD and fluid dynamics
- Will it overheat?Thermal simulation
- How much force, torque or loss?Electromagnetic simulation
- Does heat or flow change the stress?Multiphysics simulation
Practical questions
Which study do I need?
Start from the question: whether it breaks, lasts, resonates, overheats or flows as intended. Describe it in the form and we will recommend the study that answers it, and say plainly if simulation is the wrong tool.
Which software do you use?
We run our analyses in SimScale, a cloud simulation platform, and design in Autodesk Inventor. You don’t need either: we work from STEP and most native formats.
Can you combine physics in one study?
Yes. Losses can become heat sources, temperatures can become thermal stress, and loads from a flow study can be applied to a structural model.
Can the results go straight into the design?
Yes. The same engineers make the changes in the model and carry them through to drawings and production.
