01Specification
A specification your engineers and suppliers can work to
Before anything is designed, we pin down what the product has to do, what it must survive, what it can cost and how many you will make.
Most development problems start as an unclear requirement: a load nobody wrote down, a cost target that arrived after the tooling quote, an interface two teams read differently.
We work with your team to define the product, its timing, its performance targets and its cost, along with what the manufacturing process needs to succeed. Where an existing part or legacy equipment is involved, we can reverse engineer it, from 3D scans if needed, so the specification starts from real geometry.
What you leave with
- Requirements in numbers
- Loads, environments, interfaces, performance and cost written so a design can be measured against them.
- Manufacturing targets
- Volumes, cost per part and the likely processes, so the design is shaped for them from the start.
- The open questions
- A short list of what is still undecided, and what will decide it.
- A basis for quotes
- One document that partners and suppliers can price against.
Questions this stage answers
Which load cases does the product have to survive?
The ones it will see in use, in transport and when it is misused. Writing them down now stops a design being sized for the wrong case.
Which requirements are fixed and which can move?
Separating the two early gives the concept work room where it can help, and holds the line where it can’t.
Which standards and customer requirements apply?
We capture the ones you name and flag where they shape the design. Approval stays with you and your test house.
Is the target cost realistic for the volume?
A first view of process and part cost shows early whether the numbers hang together.
